Optimizing Environmental DNA Extraction from Turbid and Clear Water Samples for Reliable Fish Biodiversity Detection
This study shows that effective eDNA workflows must be adapted for both high-turbidity estuarine samples and low-turbidity offshore waters, where DNA yield and variability differ significantly. The Omega Bio-tek E.Z.N.A.® Tissue DNA Kit, paired with inhibitor removal, delivered consistent performance in complex, high-turbidity samples, while the E.Z.N.A.® Water DNA Kit demonstrated strong performance in higher-DNA environments but should be used cautiously in low-concentration, clear-water conditions.
